Patient Instructions for Home Whitening

Brush and floss teeth thoroughly

Make sure that your customised trays fit well and are dry

Remove the protector cap of the whitening syringe

Dispense a small amount of the gel into the tray as demonstrated by your dentist

Align the trays over the teeth and press with your fingers to fit in place

Remove excess gel from the gums and the edge of tray with soft brush, tissue or cotton wool.

The gel should not sit on the gums.

For 10% Carbamide Peroxide, wear trays for 2-4 hours (or overnight)

For 16% Carbamide Peroxide, wear trays for 1-2 hours

After the wearing time has finished, brush residual gel from teeth and tray, rinse out mouth thoroughly and rinse off tray

Wash the trays and leave them to dry, ready for the next use

The whitening gel should not be changed during application period as this will increase the risk of the teeth becoming sensitive

Depending on the initial colour of the teeth, you should expect it to take about 2/3 weeks to achieve a satisfactory result

A proportion of patients experience some sensitivity while whitening. If this occurs, stop treatment on a daily basis and use on every other day. On the days you do not whiten teeth use desensitising gel/toothpaste in the trays

Make sure that you contact your dentist if you have any problems

Drinks, such as cola, coffee, tea, wine and tobacco products should be kept to a minimum during your treatment (or better avoided altogether), and for one month afterwards
